The Department of Regional Science and Rural Development was established on 01.08.2022 as the successor of the Department of Regional Science and Public Policy of the Gyula Kautz Faculty of Economics, which was established on 01.01.2006, and joined by the excellent Rural Development Research Group of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development of the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences. From 01.08.2022 the department will continue its activities at the Faculty of Agriculture and Rural Development of Albert Kázmér Mosonmagyaróvár.

In the field of agricultural studies, the department is responsible for two bachelor's degree courses (Agricultural Engineer in Economics and Rural Development, Agricultural Engineer in Rural Development) and one master's degree course (Agricultural Engineer in Rural Development), both full-time and part-time, and in the field of economic studies, it coordinates a master's degree course (Regional and Environmental Economics), which is available in English as well as in Hungarian. In addition, the department's lecturers are also responsible for courses in agriculture, economics, law, engineering, social and sports sciences, both compulsory and optional.

As spatial and rural development requires a multidisciplinary approach, the department's teaching staff also includes a multidisciplinary representation. The vast majority of our colleagues, who have degrees in law, agricultural engineering, regional economics and geography, are qualified lecturers with considerable theoretical knowledge and practical experience and are active in the research network of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Hungarian Research Network). There is an opportunity for extensive communication in the social sciences, for getting to know each other's teaching and research areas, and for developing joint programmes. The high quality of teaching and research is supported by two professors emeritus. The department also pays special attention to the education of young researchers, and commendably undertakes a large number of PhD students.
